Mr. Bauer
The 2019-20 school year will be my third year teaching and all of that experience has been here at Ivy Hawn. I have worked in many different fields so far and have learned a great deal, but being a teacher has thus far been the most rewarding. I consider myself lucky to be in this position. I wake up each day and am gifted with the opportunity to work with a group of young minds, who are just figuring out who they are and who they wish to become.
I graduated from Florida Southern College with a B.S. in Business Administration with a focus in finance. My passion however has always lied in imagery and design. I started teaching myself photography and graphic design in high school and haven't stopped since. Outside of teaching I still work on personal photo projects and on assignments for clients (portraits, weddings, design & branding for small businesses, etc). If i'm not working with a camera or computer I enjoy surfing, running and learning about or practicing just about anything that requires skilled craftsmanship. This year I designed and made my first surfboard and built a surfboard for a customer!
I believe that every human life benefits from exposure to the creative process especially the still developing minds of students. In a fast paced world full of constant production, instant gratification and cramming on the behalf of results meaningless to the individual; photography, graphic design and every other art form offer an alternative. The creative arts focus on the process of creation just as much as they do the creation itself. For those willing to put in the effort this typically translates into a meticulous slow paced never ending though worthwhile pursuit of perfection, growth and personal development. It is through these processes that true learning takes place and individuals find real and lasting senses of purpose and satisfaction. This is what I hope to offer my students.
