Recent events may have removed us from the classroom but that does not have to stop us from learning. As we move forward lets try to think of this as an opportunity to apply what we have learned to new environments and challenge ourselves to think outside of the box. Assignments will be universal regardless of class as they will serve as bridges connecting core principles of design and photography while also incorporating ELA standards.

Assignment
To continue education at home students will engage in a project/activity that will force them to think back on past learning experiences and incorporate those skills into a new medium. This specific assignment requires no more than access to form of camera (smart phones and tablets are perfectly fine) and PowerPoint (included in your students Office 365 account). If students do not have access to a camera of any kind they may opt to sketch an image to accompany their reflection. Use 1 PowerPoint slide to for each entry.
Students will be working on the construction of a photo journal that incorporates both imagery and text. Each week students will be required create 1 complete entry. Each entry will consist of 1 photo and a 1-2 paragraph reflection of the students time spent outside of school. The reflection can be related to anything going on in the students life during this strenuous time. The boredom of solitude, the joy of an extended spring break, eating that same thing for dinner... again, or worries and concerns the student and their families may have. Putting these thoughts into writing can help students and adults alike process them more effectively while also creating a living document that we can look back on when this all finally blows over. The photo that accompanies the journal entry should be tied to the event, thought or emotion behind the reflection itself. The duration of this assignment will run the entire length of the school closure.
Success Criteria
- A single 1-2 paragraph reflection/journal entry for each week spent outside of school. (Paragraphs are 5 sentences in length minimum).
- Each reflection/journal entry must have one accompanying photo that relates to the subject/content of the reflection.
- Reflections will be free of spelling, grammatical and punctuation errors.
- Upon returning to school students will compile all of their entries into one completed work.
- The completed work will demonstrate an understanding of basic aesthetic design.
- Midterm 4/15/2020: 2 complete entries
- Final 5/20/2020: 7 complete entries (total)
