Capture and share your point of view
My creative photography course is designed to create a foundation of knowledge on which students can further build upon. Students will be introduced to DSLR cameras and taught their basic functions and how to care for them. Through a variety of photo assignments we will go over basic photography techniques & practices, explore different genres of photography, and learn to communicate through imagery. Photography is an art form, and a camera to a photographer is a tool much like a brush is to a painter. Students will be given the knowledge and support needed to create exceptional photographs but the end result is entirely up to the student and how they choose to balance and manipulate the cameras functions and interact with or control light in any given scenario.

Visual Storytelling
Due: 01/24/2020
Group Project: 3-4 people per group
Each group is required to work together to craft a story that can be told through series of still images. Individual students will be directly responsible for the creation and editing of at least 5 photos that will be used in the story series of images. Once the student is finished with their individual photos they must be combined with the photos of their group members and placed in order (either in Lightroom or a separate folder) on the same computer. The teacher must be able to look through the images (in order) and have a reasonably easy time following the story and knowing what is going on without the assistance of narration. Students should use techniques such as body language, mood lighting and manipulation of the environment to contribute to the overall effectiveness of their storytelling.
Success Criteria:
- Each student has taken and edited at least 5 photos to be used in their groups story.
- The group story must be cohesive. It should be easy for the teacher or class mate to follow along.
- Use of one of more of the following techniques (Body language, Mood lighting or manipulation of the environment).
- All images must be properly exposed.
- All images must have a balanced or otherwise productive composition.

Building a Photo
Students will work in teams of up to 3 people to create either a back drop to be used for portraits or a miniature landscape. Both options will be themed around the rain forest to work in congruence with this semesters gallery theme.
Backdrops: Backdrops should be sized large enough to take a waist-up portrait in front of. These backdrops must have a 3-dimensional element (do not simply draw on a poster board). Back drops must be covered entirely and made to replicate a rain forest environment. Materials that can be used are things such as leaves, sticks, vines, bark, etc... Once the backdrops are finished students must use them to take a portrait of a classmate.
Miniature landscapes: Students will use a cardboard/shoe box or other easily had enclosure and create a miniature landscape within it. Landscapes should resemble the rainforest; both natural and artificial materials may be used. These miniature landscapes can include but are not limited to things such as trees, water features and animals. Once finished students must use landscape photography techniques to photograph their miniature landscape.
Success Criteria:
- All students must contribute equally to the completion of their groups project
- The project must be made primarily of 3-Dimensional elements (drawings can be incorporated but must not make up the majority of the design.
- Background must be large enough to take a portrait in front of 2' x 3' minimum.
- Miniature landscapes must be created in a box roughly the size of a shoe box or larger. Smaller boxes will not suffice.
- The created environment/background must be representative of what one might find in the rainforest (not the backyard) to the best of the students ability.
- Students will use their finished project to photograph either a portrait or landscape photo.
- Photos must be edited in Lightroom and uploaded to their online portfolios.
